If it is the same set up as my 01 estate there is a small catch on the one plastic collar where the headrest goes into the seat. With the headrest extended press in the catch and pull up the headrest to release it.

 

There is one catch that you press for the normal raising and lowering and a smaller one on the other side that needs to be pressed as well to fully remove the head restraint. Saab say this one needs a screwdriver to be poked in, but I think they are the same as the front and I did that with a finger nail.

Thanks very much gents. I have just taken a trip to the car park and found the "hidden" second catch that could be pressed in with the end of my key. Why did I not find this at the weekend in almost 1 hour of trying ???

Just as an after thought... I had the same problem with my car seat. However, I wanted to leave it in just in case the ankle snapper wasn't on board, but guests were. All I did was raise the head rest, push the baby seat into place and then push the head rest down again over the lip of the baby seat. It seemed to work fine for me. Also it didn't obstruct my view. It aslo doesn't bother the little lad. However, it is going to be some time before he reaches the top of that seat!! He is only 14 months.

 

Do these not fold flat onto the parcel shelf, like wot mine do?

 

How d'ya mean Fliptop? They slide into the seat back, so disappear that way. I think they're the same. If I'm not mistaken you drove the car I bought as a loan car a while back, so I guess you'd have noticed any difference.

 

It's only the headrests on the saloon that fold flat isn't it?
