I have always thought it more likely we'd get hijacked or have something snatched when stationary, like at the lights. Presumably this is when it decides to unlock itself!

There are several locking options on the 9-5.

I have:

Double unlock - first press of remote opens driver's door only. Second press opens the other three doors.

Rolling Lock - as above.

All doors unlock on key removal from ignition. Option is driver's door only.

Double Lock - first press of remote locks doors and boot. Second press locks deadlocks.

Also have the "chirps" turned off to avoid upsetting the neighbours,

It only unlocks when key is removed from ignition. Or you press the console switch.

Mate of mine locked his keys inside an Astra Sport about 7 years ago. AA man took a lump hammer to a "secret" spot inside front wheel arch & beat hell out of it till the doors popped, apparently this was how the crash sensor worked. I presume similar features exist on all centrally locked cars, least I hope so. Mind you, doesn't bode well for security! Maybe wouldn't have worked if deadlocks set?

I thought that these days the crash sensors that opened the doors had more protection than that

. I remember that in the early days of central locking you could pop the locks of a parked car by driving gently into the back of it, but the thieves found out and they changed it.

Yeh, I heard about 5 years ago, that if you hit the towing eye on the front of a car with a lump hammer, it sets off the airbags and opens the doors. I dunno if it was true.

I am not trying to educate the less desirable ppl - they already know but it may benefit the owners, if they don't know about it and if the 'fault' hasn't been corrected.
