I want to replace the disks and pads on my 2004 3.0 tid (has the same vented 308mm front brakes as an aero).

Looking at various posts and sites I am confused as to what I precisely what type (and size) of socket I need to remove the caliper bolts.
Anybody help?

I take it you want to get the disc/rotor off? The bolts that hold the caliper to the carrier bracket are Torx headed and around the 18mm mark. It is worth buying a set of the Torx sockets to go on your 1/2inch drive set, usually from 2mm right up to 22mm as a rack. You will end up using them on heaps of other bolts. Don't use a standard hex socket as you will strip the head and never get them off. They are torqued up really tight to well over 120Nm and you will need a long bar to get extra purchase. Torque up correctly on putting them back. Engine stands and chocks are a must too.

Thanks guys, I had a peek at the weekend, you're right BigMike - you can't see a thing after removing the end caps. I guess you need to do it with the wheels on full lock.

So I guess I would need to dig out my trolley jack and axle supports. Incidentally is the front jacking point under the mounting for the front towing eye? I presume this is the bit that has the rubber bung shoved in it?
