Hi Guys,
my 9-3 is a little bit rough at idle, it holds constant revs (800-900 rpm) but is a little vibratey. When you increase the revs slightly it is perfect. also I have noticed that when I am at full throttle in it does not pull as well as it does at a third to half throttle, is this normal?

From a bit of poking in your archives could it be a dirty sensor somewhere?

Thanks in advance, Jake

Hi guys, after 2-3 hours driving my engine warning light flickers on and off, It seems to be heat related because if i stop for half an hour or so it does not come back on. No limp mode, drives ok and I get about 46mpg on the motorway. I took it to my local garage, who put it on their generic code reader and it showed nothing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Jake

Hi,

These intermittent CEL faults which don't cause limp-home mode on the diesels are a pain to diagnose.

The only way to be precise is to hook it up to a Tech-II - may be cheaper at a independent Saab specialist if you have one available?

The generic OBD II type readers don't seem to work with the original 9-3 diesel as it isn't compliant with the standard (but from reading around I understand that there may be a software fix - although quite how it was achieved wasn't clear to me!)

Good luck,

Dave

Dont know if saab have them but my old 250k mondeo diesel direct inj, had similar syptoms and was erratic somes would splutter, hot and cold occasionally and engine would even die completly for a few secs, scary at speed! turned out to be camshaft sensor, just work out was a ÂŁ15 fix and just unscrew out and replace with new one, could be somthing similar, but easy replacement if they have similar sensors?

After some grief I've managed to tidy all the posts relating to your problem into the one thread. Please keep all related queries together otherwise it makes diagnosis more diffucult.

P0280 doesn't appear to be a valid code.
