I know there have been a lot of these over time - I've been searching them! I can't find an answer to this particular question though.

My 97 CSE runs at about 1/3rd of the way up the gauge (about 8 o'clock I suppose). Once it has reached this point, it never seems to move! Even if I sit in traffic, with the A/C running, in this recent hot weather.

Does this indicate a problem, or not?

As Kommando says the later 9ks have a temp sender (name of which escapes me) which gives the same reading over a very wide temp range, this way the gauge in the dash reads the same from say 30deg to 98deg and only when dome is impending does it then get a different signal and reading. This stopped people worrying as the old linear senders set the gauge towards red when you sat in traffic only for the gauge to drop like a stone as the fan cut in. My 97 9k also sat at 8 o.clock, I cleaned the connector to the sender and it now sits at 8-30! My 96 9k sits at 8 and I've not bothered with it.
