Thanks to Alix66 for correctly helping me to diagnose an intermittent lumpy running problem with my 9000 2.0LPT. He has told me to get the ECM checked out. I'm pretty ignorant on things mechanical (just know that I love my Saab) so forgive me for being thick but 1)What is it? 2)What does it do? 3)What is the likely cost of replacement/repair? 4)Will only a main dealer have the necessary kit?

An ECM is the Eloectronic Control Module or engine computer. When a load is applied to the engine the computer senses the load and makes adjustments so that the engine continues to run properly under all conditions. I'm glad I was able to help.

Just to say why not find a scrapped vehicle and try by substitution. That way, cost will be kept down. If going to dealer to ask about it take a chair and some smelling salts! Sorry I can't tell you where the ecm is situated on your car, but probably someone can......??
