Does anyone know how free moving the turbo wastegate should be. I have been having a problem overboosting, and when I took my head off this afternoon I also took the turbo off and the wastegate is very stiff. Having never played with a wastegate before I don't know how free it should be, but would guess it shouldn't be as stiff as mine is.

took my turbo off last month to be re-conditioned, wastegate should be fairly tight
but at the same time the operation should be smooth.

have you tried opening the wastegate with the actuator disconnected??

most commen is for the clip on the actuator to wastegate connection that rusts up causing
stiff wastegate operation.

Thanks Blower, yes I disconnected the actuator straight away which is why I decided it wasn't right - I had to use a hammer to open the wastegate. I've since sprayed it with fospro (same as plusgas) and the lever is now lovely and free, so I guess it's fixed - at least for a little while
