For those in the know,

About how much is a 9000 CSE 2.3 Turbo (TCS, walnut, leather etc), 92J with 157K worth?

Uncle was offered £500 trade in which he refused, and is now pondering selling privately, but is unsure how much to ask.

I have an idea, but want to gather a few values before forwarding to him.

J reg on 157k miles? Can't be worth more than a grand, 1200 tops.

There is a black L plate Aero with 150k and FSSH advertised locally for £1600, trade. Keep trying to think of excuses not to have a look.....

They don't hold their value, no car does these days when you can get a new one for 20 quid a week.

I was gonna get a 2.3 CSE, 180k 92 J, it was for sale at 80 quid, of course when I got their it had just been sold! grr.

So I spent 25 quid and got an 88 9000i auto with 30 quids worth of fuel in the tank and 144k on the clock.

If he gets any more than 500 he will be lucky.

Prices have plummeted recently, don't know if it's just particularly bad with Saabs.

The 'A1' condition for my P-reg Aero was £9750 when i bought it.
It's now down to £5500 for the same!

Down to almost half in only 18 months!!!

JESUS, I've just rechecked.......£4950

At this rate I don't know how long it will be before I HAVE to sell it.

I'd take book prices with a pinch of salt as a few Saab specialist dealers I've talked to recently have said that selling Aero's at above book price is no problem (unless it's a undesirable automatic), it's finding them that is the problem. Of course, they only want to buy them at book trade prices,
knowing that they can sell above book price and make a tidy profit.
As for selling privately, I'm guessing the same should be true, depends on how desperate one is to sell, and of course, how good the car is.....

When I bought my '96 Aero in 2000, I paid slightly below book price for it, from a dealer and still had to fork out almost £3K in the first year, and that was on a one owner, FSSH with only 45K miles.....
Just the luck of the draw I guess......

I've been told by two well respected independant specialists that my 90 H CD Carlsson is worth at least £2500, probably £3000 but I've only had one enquiry so far at £2000! Which incedentaly turned out to be a complete waste of my time, with the guy only being interested in whether the aircon worked and what condition the wheels are in!!

That's probably what the Saab enthusiast would pay, though the normal market would only see it as a £1000 old Saab

If you have the time - hang on, you may get a bite at £2k

I guess I'll see what happens? I don't really want to sell the car anyway, I wouldn't get the same performance anywhere else for the same money!

Unfortunately I have a Camaro that needs a gearbox rebuild and I've gotta find the money somewhere. The Saab really is a great car but it's hard to beat the grins you get from a beefed up 5.7 V8!!!

My Saab Specialist got put me onto a 9000 carlsson about three months ago for £1200. I thought it must be knackered and didnt even look (well I'd prefer the shape of an aero anyway - not to mention the engine ). Another guy bought it and turned up at the specialist when I was there. It's in really good nick. The only thing I could say is bad about it is that the yellowish reflective panel on the rear looks faded. Now that is r e a l l y bad news.

You've got me there, big blocks definitely kick ass and sound the muts while they're doing it!!! I'll have to stick with my little 350 for the time being, whatever I get next is gonna be a big block!

There's a '71 383 runner knocking around at the minute for good money and I've been fighting the urge to go and ask the bank for some cash to buy it!!
