Saab Turbo Team Europe & SaabScene Summer Picnic & Trackday

Saab Turbo Team Europe is a pan-European virtual club for enthusiastic Saab owners. Saabscene is a leading on-line Saab club/discussion forum with 2,000 registered members. Together, they are holding their first international meeting in "midsummer", on the 28th, 29th & 30th June. The venue is the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula, and Anglesy, in North Wales. Although there are several group events planned (mostly to do with eating & drinking), generally speaking Saabists can very much please themselves as to what they do.

Saabscene does not charge membership, and this event is open to any Saab driver & their familiy, however you are required to register in advance either online here or via e-mail to Keith Warburton at [email protected] , or if necessary call Keith on 01763 262987 (daytimes only). If, once numbers are known – by end of April – we find that there is a charge - perhaps to use a BBQ area, or for parking etc, we will let registered participants know at that time.

PROGRAMME
The programme is still developing, currently it looks like this.

SATURDAY 28TH
Arrivals. Afternoon and evening: BBQ “on the beach” near Pwellheli (or do what you like at the many tourist attractions close by).

SUNDAY 29TH
Morning – spend time as you wish then: A light Sunday Lunch at the award-winning restaurant Plas Bodegroes, near Pwellheli. www.bodegroes.co.uk The award-winning roprietor, Chris Chown, has generously offered lunch for £12.50/head (traditional sunday lunch with all trimmings). This price is more easily understood when you know that the proprietor Chris Chown is not only a top class restaurateur – known within Saabscene as Fawlty (sometimes “Basil”) he’s also a Saab driver! How convenient.

Then we fill in a few hours with a car treasure hunt – visiting some nice places and finding the answers to clues - until we congregate again back at Fawlty’s for a light dinner (e.g lasagne) at £6.50/head. Meals at Fawlty’s will be limited to numbers, so please reserve your place with Keith Warburton as soon as possible.

Before dinner we may well have a beauty/envy competition (for cars). There will be a small charge to enter this, with all money going towards prizes.

MONDAY 30th
For those with a “need for speed” there’s a TRACK DAY AT ANGLESEY RACING CIRCUIT. It’s a superb opportunity to test your skill and your car’s abilities in a safety-supervised environment, with training given before you venture out onto the track in your car. The cost will be £130 / car; only one passenger allowed in any car. £65 must be paid by mid-March, the balance will be required by mid-April. Booking should be made via Saabscene, or call Keith Warburton for payment details.

Those who don’t want to drive can spectate, for which there will be a modest admission charge (£5 / car). Naturally, nobody has to attend – you are free to do what you want.

WHERE TO STAY
If you’re quick you might be able to stay at Fawlty’s, he’s offering a very special rate for the Sunday night, based on 2 sharing a double/twin B&B - contact Chris Chown at www.bodegroes.co.uk for details. However these rooms are going fast. Lots of places to stay are shown at the Gwynned Council’s Where to stay in Snowdonia website. www.gwynedd.gov.uk

WHAT TO DO
There’s lots of stuff: Electric Mountain, quadbiking, go-carting and hovercrafting, beaches, the Anglesey Sea Zoo, Portmeirion, you name it. www.visitwales.co.uk
