My 9k Aero has now dones 98,000 miles. Am I right in thinking that I should be getting the timing chains done at 100k?

I'll go along with Andrew on that, the tensioner can be slightly problematic (if I remember rightly), but a little TLC and big milages are possible.

OK, that sounds like quite good news to me! Nick, I have had the belt tensioner replaced recently - is that what you mean?

My old girl has done 186000 and only just had timing chain done,mind you she's been mollycoddled!

My previous 9000T (1987) had done 174,000 and counting though regular oil changes and I drove her gently when she was getting on in life.

Probably not- you wouldn't really go the hassle and expense of just replacing the timing chain tensioner and not the rest of it... it sounds more like you've had the auxilliary drivebelt tensioner replaced.

Oh, forgive my lack of engine knowledge!

So, do I not need to do anything for the time being then? This appears to slightly conflict with another posting about timing chains.

At 100k, I wouldn't worry about the timing chain myself. Circa 120-140k is about the going rate- but as long as it's not rattling you're OK.

And don't worry, I'm a relative engine "virgin" too...

Great, another year or two is just fine by me! Certainly no real rattles at present & the car seems all the better for a 2,000 mile trip to France.
