Hi there guys. 55 plate 1.9 Tid 120 8v. Next on my list is to replace the thermostat as it is taking a long time to warm up. In fact I've only seen the gauge hit 1/2 a couple of times. So my question is are the aftermarket ones like the Gates one any good or am I better off paying a little more fro a genuine Vaux one. On other vehicles I've owned I have always gone for the OE as they were separate stats and fitted better and worked for longer! But these are whole housings so the fit should be ok but is the quality. I know Gates are trusted esp in the US as far as belts are concerned but t stats???? What do you guys think? experience? Thanks

Thanks peeps. I have ordered oe one today. Took the car out for an extended run today and got it up to 1/2 on the temp gauge but after a while the gauge was up and down between 1/4 and just below 1/2. Hopefully new stat will sort it

This morning I fitted the new t stat.

I say morning when in fact it was 10.30 til about 4. I struggled to move the egr heat exchanger out of the way of the bottom bolt of the tstat until I found another bracket bolt once I had removed the TB to get a better view. But eventually all back together and topped up and this evening it worked just as it should. Just gotta check the level in the am and top up if necessary.
