X reg 9-3 2ltr turbo (205E) with 54k on the clock. Dealer maintained until recently.

Just fitted a new turbo and although I can't remember what sort of mpg I used to get I'm now getting just under 20mpg which seems a bit thirsty, even though I only do short trips (4 miles x 3 or 4 times a day).

I'm a very sedate driver and don't let the engine struggle at all.
Do you guys think that I could improve the mpg? if so, what do you suggest? ........ or maybe it is normal? it just seems to be doing much less than it used to.

Any advice/recommendations appreciated.

If the bearings failed on the turbo, and it let go with lots of smoke, it could be that your lambda sensor is contaminated, giving the poor fuel economy.

On my old car the fuel consumption went higher. Cured by changing the lambdas. Not cheap though. But if oil contaminated, you may be able to clean them.

Unless you damaged one when you fitted the turbo. It's quite close.
