I have been thinking of swapping the T25 on my '92 Griffin out for a TDO4. Has anyone done this and if so; is it worth the expense for the performance increase or should I be considering one of the T3/T4 hybrids? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the fittings of the turbo unit itself, but I wouldn't think they're very different. Even if they are, it's still bolting to the same manifold etc so it's just acase of making sure it has the right fittings with it.

One of the benefits of a hybrid turbo is normally that they come with uprated bearings to copewith extra pressure. I've been told by my turbo specialist that the Mitsu TD04 has such bearings anyway.

I'd say the only advantage of a TD04HL-15T over any hybrid unit would be that the TD04 could be more easily found secondhand and therefore cheaper. I believe the exhaust manifolds are different between T25 and TD04, so if you swap, make sure you get the manifold to go with it.

I wonder how much performance increase you would get without an ECU upgrade.

A friend of mine has a TD04 on his 9000CDE, '94 I think. He's also running B234R software and a few other tweaks. No figures, but his car certainly feels quick.

Cheers

I'd be interested to see how you fair, it's the route I'll consider when I get around to improving my cars top end. As Bill says, the hybrids are probably worth considering even if they are a little more costly.
