suspension

I recently fitted a set of Bilstein springs and shocks to my 9000. They have improved the handling considerable, but on anything other than a smooth road the ride is to harsh for my liking. I have tried to fit the original springs on the new shocks to see if that will give me an acceptable compromise but even at full compression they don't want to fit (which according to some suppliers sites they should). I am now considering keeping the new springs and fitting standard shocks. Can anyone tell me if this can be done without them bottoming out or worst bending. Any advice would be welcome.
