The seal would never have been 100% water tight, the sunroof is mounted in a cassette that when you wind the roof back contains the drip rails and drains. Best thing to do is wind the roof fully back and carefully poor a kettle of water around the black channel that sits under the lid and see if you locate the leak. The water that gets past the seal should drain away from this channel by means of the drain holes/tubes in each corner.

the seal is part of the glass something like 4 screw's hold it in place.
if you tilt the roof remove 2 screws that hold the trim you will find the 4 screws that hold the glass.

but like i say if the glass was vandalised a windscreen company will replace it for you.

Having checked and cleared the drains on the sunroof it looks like the seal itself is to blame.

With heavy rainfall there are drips of water still coming in, inspecting the seal shows it to be breaking up a little around the edges. Does anyone know of any products that may re-generate the seal?I seem to recall there was a product that made old rubber seals swell a little.

I am assuming replacing the seal is not possible without a new glass and would be somewhat time consuming. Failing any of this I might just seal it with silicon and leave the roof closed.

My seal leaks a little still but now my drains are clear i get no water into car. i am having 100k service soon i will ask them if it should be 100% watertight

Well as previously stated Axeman I have cleared and checked the drain holes so SHOUTING is not required.

Also, you would not be suggesting I submit a fradulent claim to get the sunroof replaced ?

 

I don't have a sunroof on mine but did have this problem on another car !! If it has a seal that has a void ie is shaped like a tube can insert a small tube into it this will swell the seal you can use any flexable tube the will fit you can also use some washing up liquid to help it around the bends.
This is not an easy job but may well solve your problem.

you can replace the sunroof glass in less than 30mins if you want to folk out for a new piece.

up to you what you do with your insurance i'm saying no more on the sudject.
