Re: Sub

A ground loop isolater is in the signal path phono to phono with an isolation transformer in the middle

What your on about is the supply suppressor which I haven't seen big ones for years and you would need one rated higher then the amp / feed fuse rating

Tbh if all the cables are already installed I would go to an ice shop a try some other amps as that would be an easier fix

Please tell me you mowed him down in it?

Right here you go, I'll make you a deal on this one if you buy this one and it makes no difference I will buy it from you for the same price you brought it  - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/11594.html

What do you think of this Haloween? http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2917.html

Surely if you are running anything above 8 gauge cable it would be useless?

Re: Sub

At home the living room I have focal speakers on a denon 5.1 amp & focal speakers on a 845 se valve amp, the bedroom i have celestion ditton 15s on a grundig amp

But I also have a pa system I can use if I have a party
On bass I have folded horns and scoop bins
Mid bass court acoustic w bins
Mid tops I have court acoustic and ass horns
What are the focals like for in house? I know they are top in car audio but never heard the in house speakers.

I have a pair of B&W 683's up front, B&W ASW610 sub, Mordaunt Short 902i's on the rear with a KEF 20C centre powered on a 7 channel Sony DA1200ES.

It isn't as I want it yet, want to upgrade the rears to the B&W 685's and the centre to the B&W HTM61 then to upgrade the amp to an Arcam AVR 400 one day aye!!!

Re: Sub

Tbh if the ground loop isolator doesn't sort it I would just replace the amp
Depending on the power of the amp (current required) that 40a suppressor might do but you may need a bigger one and it needs to be installed as close to the amp as possible as the noise can be induced back into the cable if not

But like I said check amp ground first the signal grounds (make sure cable has no breaks in it and connected fully) if that doesn't fix it a ground loop isolator should but worse case would be a suppressor / new amp

Back to the hijack
I had focal hifi speakers first that's why I bought them for the car
Heard them at a hifi show and thought I had to have them :)
Kef are good speakers I personally prefer them to b&w as I find them a bit to bright and forward but I know lots of people that like that balance
I have a pair of mordaunt shorts somewhere
I had an arcam a90 amp I've recently sold
You are obviously into your music
before buying a new amp I would advise going to a hifi shop and demoing the arcam and a denon
not sure what's by you I normally go to audioT or sevenoaks

Re: Sub

I feel that the true potential of the 683's is yet to be unlocked with the amp upgrade my amp is rated at 100WPC RMS but at 6 ohms the B&W's are 200W RMS at 8 ohms and I doubt Sony's audio quality compared with the rest out there but it was all I could afford at the time and was an upgrade ish from the Cambridge Audio A5 I had I know ones 2ch and the other 7ch but hey lol.

With my current setup when listening to music in 2ch + sub the sub lacks the ooopmh to keep up with the fronts but again this may change with the amp upgrade when that day comes, yet in films the sub is explosive, very deep bass makes the house shake and only a single 10", I know it is completely different but I had my dual 12 active Vibe in the house at one point as a test connected up to a PC power supply and I could not believe it my brother had to fight the books etc that were moving off the shelves shocking really to think, that is packed into the confined space of the car.

I have a B&O shop local and I listened to a pair of active darlics that were around £8k and I was not impressed at all being fed by B&O's attempt at a wall mount iPad priced at silly amounts I was expecting to hear it blow the socks of my current setup but it didn't got what a feeling that was.

The other place is this one - http://www.ortonsaudiovisual.com/

My bro just brought a pair of B&W P5's from them, he is very happy with those, me well not so sure on them they sound very good but I don't know something is just missing from the sound, but still a million times better than his £200 Beats Studios what a pile of Wank they are; designed by a rapper who wants bass heavy sound and yes they achieved it but WHY!!!!!!

Should you come across anyone selling the B&W's needed above or an Arcam AV amp please let me know

Re: Sub

My friend buys & sells lots of amps that's where I got my denon from I'll ask him what he has got in the pipline
I'm off down to Bristol next Saturday for a audio visual thing I'll see him then

B&O are mainly designer, they sound better then your average off the shelf but not great, you are paying for the image & name

Re: Sub

Sweet thank you.

I agree with that, they had TV's in there which looked good picture was ok in comparison to the rest of the market but still carried a 15K price tag for a 40inch
