After changing my battery the SRS light now comes on with the ignition, then after a few seconds starts flashing then goes steady if you start the engine. The owners manual says that I should refer to a dealer as the SRS might be inoperative. I guess that is exactly the problem, and the diagnostics have detected it.
How much is this going to hurt the wallet? Or is it possible to 'reset' the system?
Any ideas people.

Nick.

I had this once on mine too, I think it was when I was either cleaning the steering wheel or the seats (switching ingnition on and off for the leccy seats).

My dealer just did a freeby reset.

Unbelievable... after removing the battery to trace an intermittant high beam / flash problem to a broken wire
between the switch & light relay my dad's 97 Aero has exactly the same problem. I was about to post a similar question but I already have the answer, thanks guys

Generally speaking if you disconnect the battery, or disconnect the airbag and switch the ignition on, it will cause a fault in the airbag circuit. This is one of the few circuits that doesn't switch the light back off after so many starts without a problem.
