Hi, can anyone give me advice on what I would need to upgrade my ES2 to ES3 Sat Nav, I can get a brand new head unit quite cheap, £350 as opposed to the £1150 RRP but need an idea of what else I would need to get the full sat nav working.
Any help appreciated!

Presume your talking about a 2003-2007.

Without quoting part numbers you will need :
ICM3
DVD player (boot)
Sat nav unit (boot/parcel self)
Optical cables, splitters and ends (depending on whether your car is prewired )
Rack or other means of securing dvd player
Sat nav antenna (can jerry rig one as costly) and fakra lead ( if not already in place...blue connector is the one you want to check)
DVD !!!
Tech 2 to mate

Oh and loadsa patience
do you have amp2 under passenger seat?

Hi beomoth, thanks for replying.
Yes, sorry, it's a 2003.
I've got a Saab specialist who will fit the head unit and they have said they will check to see if the car is pre-wired-I'm guessing it won't be!
I guessed I would need a new antenna, I need a new 1 anyway as mine is really starting to perish, I have a new Saab dummy 1 that I'd stick on ebay/here. I can get a new DVD disk for £130. Does the DVD unit acyually play DVD's?
Am I being cheeky by asking if you have the part no's for the DVD and Sat Nav unit?
I'm guessing it may be too expensive but you can get quite a few of the individual parts cheaply off the web.
I know I'm mad for wanting to do this as it's not a great system but after the police kindly pointed out to me that unless I wipe off the rings from my TomTom each time, my car still stands a good chance of getting broken in to as car thieves look for these tell tale rings on the screen!
Thanks

Fine with just amp1..you can also just upgrade the head unit without the rest of the system...

dvd is just for the mapping disc...

Hi,
Here is a link to the brilliant saabdocs, http://www.saabdocs.com/English/index.html just scroll to this number 12801753 other assorted docs are around this number. Dont be too put off by the size of the PDF.
It lists everything you need and the numbers, although to be honest I fudged a few bits. I cant tell you mine as the car is at aeromotive having a few fixes.

If you get stuck for optic cables I have a few ones left that are short ones eg 1-2 ft.
Unfortunately the dvd just reads the map dvd.
£130 for the disc a bit expensive, I got mine on ebay for £50. also I read that the mazda 6 sdal discs work and you can these to 2008 whereas saab ones go up to 2005.
Also I used an old shark fin and removed the phone aerial from inside and shoehorned this in http://www.uvworldwide.co.uk/ice-navigation/gps-antenna-fakra-type-for-vw-mfd2-audi-rnse-mercedes-comand-p-382.html , saved a packet.

have fun
