I have a 1989 saab 9000 turbo, and the problem is with my transmission. I am located in the North Carolina area. One shop told me that they would charge me $350.00 just to look inside and tell me what the problem is
. The thing is there was a pop sound like something had snapped and the car stopped pulling(moving) . So if anyone knows of any good shops in this are or can just offer some advive it would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless

Well, problem is the 'box has to come out and opened up before anyone can tell what's wrong with it, so provided you or the shop looked at the obvious things (clutch, driveshafts) the $350 unfortunately is a reasonable estimate...

Is it a manual or automatic trans?

Another North Carolina Saaber here and although I can't help you with you problem, I may know someone who can. If you're anywhere near Charlotte NC I'd sugged The Swedish Garage. Their shop is located at 2215 Arty Avenue right off of Morehead. I have dealt with them several times and have been pleased each time.
