Hi all,
I have a MIU (Speedo) problem that requires it to be replaced to correct, if I buy a new one what will happen to the cars correct mileage? Will it show 0? I am happy to replace it myself (rather than garage costs) uless there is an issue with this... please advice if you know of any problems I will have before I fork out the money on the MIU!!
I am concerned the speedo would indicate the incorrect mileage (although happy to declare the correct mileage (only 25000 in 3 years)?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve.

I would guess that it is not that dissimilar to the 9-5, in which case it will need programming with Tech II to marry it to the rest of the car security system. The odometer reading will come as zero, and again would need to be programmed.

What is the fault with it out of interest?

The MIU will not work unless it is married to the car using the Saab diagnostic computer - Tech2.

Your current one also needs divorcing using the same method so that associated equipment is available to be married to the new MIU.

Tech2 is usually only available at a Saab dealer or some Saab independents.

The MIU is a computer. Make sure that there is no static electricity around and that you have earthed everything, or you risk damaging it beyond repair.

Many thanks for thr help, sounds tooooooo difficult!! If it was noy married what would and would not work? Could it run for a week or two while I got the original MIU fixed and then return that into the car?

The guys are correct in that a new MIU needs matching to your car. The chip that holds the mileage is a 6 pin chip which is held on the back of the speedo circuit board, this can be reprogrammed by (A specialist, shall we say) and they can put what ever mileage you like onto this.

If you dont fancy this then the new MIU will show 0 miles, Tech II cant adjust your mileage.

I had the whole instrument cluster replaced under warranty. Dealer did the work and the mileage displayed remained correct. Presumably they have the ability to either save and install from the old kit to the new kit or just set the reading on the new kit. They did however manage to program my fuel guage so it read in reverse!. I only realised when I ran out of petrol with a "Full" tank! required a further techII session to correct.
