Hello,
I've been listing problems I've been having with my 2005 9-3 in the wrong forum (pre 2003); as my car is actually a 2005 model i'm hoping someone can help me here.
The basic problem is poor starting when its left standing for a few hours. The longer its left the worse it seems to start. However, it always does start! I'm getting 55mpg and once started she is running very nicely.
I have fitted new glow plugs, tested the relay (which was working as it should) and no change. I have replaced a section of the leak off pipe which was attached to a loose nipple on part of the fuel system near the injection pump.
I have also replaced the air, fuel, oil filters. new Mobil 1. checked all glow plug wiring and circuit. cleaned egr (twice) and map. New battery. Tested temp sensor. Run OPCOM, it's not throwing any faults.
I really don't know where to go now!
Is there a return valve anywhere that could have failed. I could change the pump, but that is really expensive and the car is running 100% good. I have a friend who has looked over this (the sort of guy that could take a car to pieces and put it back together in his sleep) and he seems to think the fuel system is depressurising while standing. This is backed up by the fact when i removed the fuel pipes which feed the injectors from the rail there seemed to be no pressure in the system - no diesel leakage as I would have expected.
Can anyone give me any ideas? How would I start to test for depressurisation issues? How does the system regulate fuel pressure when not running... FWIW - Fuel pressure is fine while running (around 33bar).
Now thinking of selling the dam thing and going back to petrol!
Any input welcome.
Valinco
