to be fair, question is a little generic but I guess you mean in terms of ascertaining if it's a dog or not.

The engines are vauxhall built and very reliable. Suspension bushes can get a little creaky in cold weather. The interior can look a little tired if not maintained (flaky rubberised material).

150bhp, that can be remapped upto 195bhp with the official Hirsch upgrade or around 210bhp with other maptuners.

Three different trim levels, linear, vector and aero going up in that order.

I'm very pleased with my 2005 2.0t vector with 50k on after 18 months (same engine, different map basically). Very good value if buying second hand.

Every second thread here is a diesel related issue mainly and due to the particulate filters - I have deduced from myself that diesels are not good town cars anymore because of the need for these filters to self clean, which if not given the opportunity to do so, clog and affect performance. MPG on the petrol though for me is around 25 mpg (lots of city driving, occasional 30 mile run). Stick with the petrol as far as poss.

I have a 2.0T Vector convertible 2003 thas done 59k, ive had it nearly 3 years,

I would say service history is it full with reciepts, do a milage check with Vosa, you need the vin its free,

Check the boot hinges/hydraulic stays are the ok, does the boot open ok.

Has the water pump been done?? should be ok but mine went at 50k and its not an easy job.

Whats the gear change like, mine has just started to be quite stiff.

Fuel is terrible on it expect 25 mpg and not much more on a long run.

Go over some speed humps listen for any noises coming from the suspension.

Make sure its been serviced regular.

See what its like for rattles.

Just a few things that i am aware of with mine.

I still think its the best looking convertible on the market, the wife loves it.

Yep, doesn't matter if I drive sensibly or drive it properly, I get between 20-21 around town and on a run upto 37mpg (two of us, full boot).

I only do about 4000 - 5000 a year, so petrol prices not a massive issue for me, but was saying to the missus yesterday if I had to start travelling with work and do 10k a year, would have to get something more economical with petrol prices as they are.

We average 25mpg in our 1.8t Vert (195). That's over an annual mileage of 4k, mostly urban driving. I did manage to get 42mpg on a 60 mile run once....but that was with the tartan pensioners travel rug folded up on the rear shelf!!

Make sure you check the spare wheel well is not a pond!!!

Other than that our car has been ultra reliable over the last 2 years.

Well my daily commute is about 30 miles mainly on a duel carriageway, so I'm hoping of MPG around mid 30's.

I am going to view the vehicle tonight, so I will take your views into account.

I've done over 45,000 miles in my 2003 Aero. 60 mile commute each day on motorways, a-roads and rusg hour traffic to get through.

I've nearly always averaged 33-34 mpg between tankfulls. Even on a flat-out blast to York (500 miles in a day) and back last summer I averaged 30.2 mpg.

I think that stop-start driving in town is the biggest killer of mpg, more so than speed, to an extent. Town driving will reduce a diesels mpg by a similar amount too, in my experience.

Good luck with the convertible. I've yet to see one with the roof down for ages...........
