Hey Guys & Gals:

If you have to replace the alternator, as I am currently doing, be warned: It is a pain to do.

The location,under my motor mount, does not lend itself to easy access. Additionally, one of the hex head bolts is rounded and now I have to go to Sears to get a socket that will "grip" the head of the bolt.

A little warning about any bolt that is rounded, do not use vise grips to try to loosen. I guarantee you will snap the head off the bolt and then you will have to drill out the bolt.

I learned this several years ago replacing an alternator on a GM car.

The easier way to get the alternator out is too take off the wheel well cover and drop it down thru the opening. It is literally impossible to raise the alternator up from the mounted position as there is no clearance.

I guess I can't complain too much as this is probably the only engineering boo boo that I have ever seen on any Saab I have owned.
