Ok, my clock, trip computer display and pictogram are very tempremental. Occasionally they are nicely lit, other times they go dark - until they decide to light up again.
I assume I have a dodgy connection somewhere, has anybody else had a similar problem on their 9000?

Yep, had this on both of my 9000's before they finally went full dim all the time...

It's would appear to be the failure of the light sensitive diode...

I've got it on my '95 CSE - in my case it's dimmed out to unreadability at the left-hand side of the display but brightens up with the headlamps switched on. How do I fix it?

Put in the fuse for Dim Dip headlights

Alternativly, replace the light sensor (a thread here did list the part recently.

Although in your case, it sounds like the left hand bulb has gone (there a 2 or 3 bulbs backlighting)

Definitely a blown left hand bulb. There are indeed 3.

Replacement isn't too bad, remove the top of the dash then remove the instrument cluster and remove the box off the back and change the bulb.

Sorry if that sounds too simple but it's fairly obvious once you get in there.
