After some piece of Merde (MR2) broke into MY97 and trashed the dash to open a glove box that was not there, I have decided to fit one for his return, so he can open it without trashing the dash.
I have the bits to do this, and have decided to do it tomorrow, 8/3/2007/ Has anyone done this conversion and are there any pit falls? is there a way of disabling the SRS on that side without buying the kit from SAAB? ie. home job.

TIA

Why not buy a shotgun?

On the subject of a replacement glove-box instead of the airbag, it can be done, you just leave the airbag connection car side taped safely out of the way. The passenger airbag does not communicate back to the various ecu/srs thingys.

The only thing I would ask is are you planning to use the car as a lone passenger in the future? Could be a bit nasty in an accident for the passenger -and there could be insurance implications if your pax made a claim.

I would just find out who did it and give them an Andy warning.

Not sure your right on this, i think it does link back to the ECU's

Sorry if I gave you false information, but the guy I get my saab parts from has changed his MY96 back to a glovebox and he just unplugged the airbag.
There is no SRS light and he assumed that everything was ok. I will inform him that he needs the resistor.

Hi Mike, no need to apologise mate, you could be right. I have just done the deed, now I have a GB, but the SRS light is on, so I will check out the resistor trick later.

Thanks for your input though.

You know that fitting the resistor now won't make the light go out and you will need to have it "Tech-II'd"?

yep, that's right, and the last time it cost me £20, I'm thinking the 'Software' may be able to do it, just waiting for a cable to turn up on my door step.
Funny, When I first bought MY97 6 years ago, I missed the glove box for about 0.0004 seconds. Now that I have fitted one, I just do not understand how I could have done without it for so long, it's full already

I suspect it won't. The standard OBD connector on the later 9000s only connects to Trionic via the standard pins. Some of the other systems (ABS, SRS) are connected, but to non-standard pins on the connector and even if you rewired the cable to connect to those I don't know whether they "speak the same language". I'll be interested to hear how you get on, though.

OH, never mind then, it can wait for a bit then, but if I find something I will post and PM you.
