Hi

Here one for the techies out there.

The car is a 1.9TID 150 diesel 9-3 vector with 37,000 on the clock and is an 05 reg.

Symptoms are that sometimes from start-up the car will have no power above 3,000rpm. If I stop turn off the ignition and then restart the car will normally run fine. the problem does not occur all the time but generally happens on 1 in 5-8 start-ups.

I've put a code reader on it (running op-com software) and it comes up wit hthe following fault codes P1109-62 & P1109-63 (or sometimes 61). I can generally clear the codes (except sometimes I cannot clear P1109-62 with the engine running)

Once the codes are clear they will stay off for a couple of starts and then the EML light comes on and the codes are back. The car does not have to run poorly before the code regenerates, it just comes up on start-up (even if the car appears to be running ok.

The swirlflap bar had come adrift but this has been put back on (using the screw cap trick)

I've recently replaced the EGR valve and today carried out a manual regen of the DPF (the diagnostic is showing 70% saturation after the regen).

Any Ideas on what the codes are relating to and any course of action for repair would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Tony.

I've just checked on TIS2WEB for you.The codes are for incorrect swirl feedback which points to a faulty swirl actuator. These aren't overly expensive but can be a bit akward to change as your year of car still has the vacuum box down the back of the engine which makes the space a bit tighter. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the info. Will look into buying and replacing the Actuator. Am I correct in thinking it needs to be addressed to the ECU on installation?

The only thing thats supposed to be done when they are replaced is to calibrate the end position but i wouldn't worry about it as not many of the guys at my place do it and none of them have come back in with any faults.

Can the actuator be changed without removing the diesel pump (and consequently the timing belt). I ask as this is what the Haynes manual says  (not a fan of them but its all i've got)

Thanks very much for your help on this, the link you posted unfortunately is broken and doesn't take you to the site.

Sorry about that. I think its because TIS2WEB (which is GMs replacement for the WIS sysyem) requires you to be logged on via another portal and the log ons are only available to GM staff. I did try it before posting and it was working ok. Anyways, heres the text on how to do it.

14. Remove the nuts holding the coolant pipe to the starter motor bracket. Bend away the pipe slightly to give room for the vacuum reservoir.

15. Detach the vacuum hoses from the vacuum reservoir. Remove the vacuum pipe bolts from the camshaft housing and the oil trap bracket.

16. Remove the vacuum container.

17. Undo the oil trap upper hoses. The right-hand hose has a quick coupling to the oil trap. Hold the black plastic ring and pull up the connection.

18. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the oil trap bracket and bend it aside.

19. Remove the actuator, prise the control arm carefully away from the ball joint. Remove the actuator connector.

The vacuum container can be disposed of as its not really needed. The thing to do with the vacuum pipe from the pump is to just join it from the outlet of the pump and rejoin it onto the pipe going into the vacuum controller. This still works ok as saab have done away with the vacuum box from the 2006 models onwards.

Here's the lastest on my saga. If you've read any of my previous posts you will have read how my car suffered the EGR fault and also the bar had fallen of the swirl flaps.

I've fitted a new EGR valve and repaired the swirl flap bar using the screw cap trick from a previous poster.

After all this work and a manual regen the car would sometimes run fine and sometimes go to limp mode. Code reader read a P1109 code which "alexandlilsdad" confirmed as a swirl valve actuator fault.

Well last night I decided to pull the swirl flap bar off again to see what happens. Today car has run fine, no fault code and no limp mode (go figure) The only other wierd thing is a diesel smell in the car now (though I might be imagining this).

Thid car is now seriously winding me up
