I went to see another 9000 (non Turbo)H plate,172k,Mot Sept,no Tax,really good condition,he is also giving me another full leather interior with it (dark grey/black).

this time just a straight swap for the Merc I have.
Its a 89',102k,Mot Oct,Tax Aug (which I'm gonna cancel, and switch to the Saab should I do the deal),also good condition.
I know I have been asking alot of questions lately, but I would really appreciate any feed back on this.
because the next Saab I get will be with me for a long time,so I dont mind puting some time & money in to it to get it "personalised".
So again opinions please,thanks.

Regards
Jon

ps.Both cars do not have any history!

hummm..
non turbo's are a bit pedestrian and have worse fuel consumption..I guess they will be a little harder to upgrade than the turbo's
slightly cheaper insurance though ...you pays your money and....
I would be especially carefull of the timing chain at this milage (and the abs)

Hi Guy's

Yea,I forgot to say,its the 2.0 (non),I did drive it and it really drove fine.
And to be honest the only thing thats really puting me off (not much though) is the milege, but then again the very first Saab I got had 196k 2.0 non Auto)on it and it ran like swiss watch!,it was gutless though.

I think I really prefer Saabs to Merc's,not taking anything away from the Merc, cause',its a bloody good car.But theres just that something about a Saab that I want to go back to.

I know Ylee/coyote said "its harder to upgrade non turbo's",why is that, cause' I thought after a while I would put a Turbo on it,cause' I have Turbo stuff from a breakers yard that I got ages ago for my first 9000,I was going to convert that.

I think all I dont have is the turbo unit itself!,then again thats one of the main things isn't it.
But in all seriousness I think I might go for that one,I know its high milege but to me that tells me if its been looked after to get it this far it should be ok!,I did listen to the Engine and it sounded fine.

But like I said to a friend earlier, its not untill you have a car in day to day use cold/hot starting stuck in traffic ect, that you find its true faults.I dont think going a couple miles down the road shows up much if anything at all.
Apart from things like mechanical wear/tear.

We have all (Ahmm)"doctered" things from time to time (well I know I have!).
Well thanks for the replies, and I might just have Another Saab this time tommorrow you never know.

Regards
Jon

If you are serious about the 1989 9000, get it checked out at a local Saab Specialist - they should be able to tell if there's anything major needing attention.

I had a 1991 9000 2.0i 16v which was a good cruiser, but was a bit underpowered. Think I averaged about 30mpg in that.

Tricky one, i have 3 SAAB 9000's. - 2.3i & 2.3 turbo. If it were me i would hunt out a turbo, I think they are much nicer to drive, no less reliable and don't use any more fuel.

My 1st SAAB was a 9000 2.3i and within a month of buying it I wished I'd found the extra and got the turbo.

Which Merc do you have, I'm not 100% sure i would rush to swap it for a non-turbo.

JFP..I did have the (I did the swap!)a 230E,89',I took someone who really knows about things.
We went for another run I said what do you think!,all he said was "I know its a higher milege than the Merc, but it has a history (which I wasn't sure if it had)up to 2k,it drives fine everything works on it,if it was me I would swap",so there you have it,I am now the owner (again) of a 9000 (non),but I will take a trip to my local breakers yard, and see if they have anything.
Mind you,one thing I am looking for is the piece at the back, you know the piece that covers the registration plate lights, well I'm looking for a red one of those,or whatever colour (I can be sprayed)if anyone has one,it would be great!.
I took off the one the I had which was the big piece of red perspex,it was faded anyway which made it look worse,so like I say if anyone has one great!!
Oh well, like I say manual gears once again, and Iv'e allready stalled it twice!!.

MPEN..You must think its the big plastic one,no its the other one that just covers the no plate lights.

Cheers Andy..Yes the Engine sounds ok,when I checked the oil earlier it was really was quite clear so its obviously been changed in the last couple of days.
But yes I will listen/watch out for that timing chain!!.

Regards
Jon
