As i've said before, my car suffers from a steady oil loss. This seems to be worsening of late, i took a look under the car and the main offender appears to be the seal between the sump and the block.

(winces)

Is this economical to repair and whats the damage likely to be? That question goes out to anyone who's had the work done...

I have not had experience of this with a Saab, but a solution that was reached on a another vehicle was to remove the pan to flatten the sealing edges, and replace using a gasket tailored from several thicknesses of gasket paper. Apparently, distortion was not unknown for the sump, due to the different materials used. (Plastic) sealant in a tube is not recommended since hardened portions may break off in later life, causing blockages in channelways and the oil system.
