Things were noticable smoother on my 103k Aero on changing to synthetic oil, but I still find moving from 4th to 5th really quite notchy. (Synthetic seemed to reduce the notch when cold, but when warm it's the same as before)
If I move into 5th very slowly, I can almost feel the gears being close to a little crunch, but they never do.

The gearbox is fine apart from this - no strange noises (maybe a tiny overrun whine).
Could this just be a tired gear selector bush? (please say yes)

this is what started with my gearbox..
eventually you needed to double declutch to get it into 5 th and it did not matter how quickly or slowly you put it in...

When they took it apart it needed (amongst other things ) the 4/5 synchro (which causes this problem)
btw the famous circlip (known weakpoint ) had already broken and I had about 1000 miles max before the gearbox ate itself...
