I went to see wheels off a 9000 CSE J reg today (3 spokes) now the wheels in general are in very good condition.(tyres inc)

But,yep there's allways a but!,on the front (drivers side) there's a "ding" at the rim just at the tyre wall about an inch.
He said it could "hammered" out,can it??,and the other front wheel has "buff" marks about half way round the wheel at the edge.

Are they worth the £100 he's asking, but how do I know if they are buckled, can anyone advise on this.

I wouldn't hammer it if I were you. You can get wheels professionally refurbished. They sandblast the wheel, re-machine the rim and sort out any dings before repainting, lacquering and oven baking. I had it done on my wife's Golf about five years ago and the results were astonishing - they still look good now. It cost about £50 a wheel then.

Can't comment on £100 representing good value or not.

I didn't think you could hammer them but I wasn't sure, thats why I didn't say anything to him.

If it's £50ish a wheel they would then cost me £150,still wonder if it's worth it,thanks.

£100 each?
I thought you meant for the set ! (though if the tyres are really good then I suppose that will affect your judgement) I just paid £250 for brand new Continental tyres for my car (including fitting, balancing, VAT etc).

So, if the tyres on those wheels are new, I guess you could say the wheels themselves would be costing you £40 each. The value of part worn tyres could also be simply computed on this basis. Maybe this might affect your opinion on the value?

Have you called a couple of specialist Saab dismantlers to find out the street price? Most of them will lose the VAT for cash ...... so I'm told.

I reckon with a new set of performance alloys and tyres you are unlikely to get change out of £1000 but there are others out there who know far more than me.

£100 is for the set my mistake for not eplaining that right sorry.
The tyres are not to bad, didn't take to much notice of the make,I was more taking note of the wheels, now ok I can mabe get a "dent" out,but the "buffing" at the side of the rim, then again maybe they can can get that out too I don't know.

So you reckon £100 for 4 with tyres is ok???

What size rims 15" or 16"?

The 16" rims are mostly referred to as Aero's (the name given by Saab) on these boards. If they are the 16" rims then it's a bargain as a full set will cost you £350 new (exc. tyres), and thats a special offer at dealers atm, they were £800 odd orginally!!

My turn, alloy wheels can be repaired by experts but with respect not by you with a hammer. Another thought would be, if the one wheel is that damaged would you really want it on your car ?

What make are the tyres ?, if you have heard of them yes but if not..........

I got a new set of 16" AERO aloys for £325 (you can too, as mentioned above I think the main dealers have them on offer. A set of tyres is likely to cost £240 ish.

So what I think is, if you only have £100 then the wheels + tyres are worth it. If you can make it to £560 then thats the way to go, especially if you are going to keep the car.

Hope this makes sense

I wouldn't know how damaged it was till it was on the car before refurbishment. But on the subject on prices christ I can buy a car for £560!!,granted maybe not a very good one but certainly a good running 9000.
No disrespect to people who do spend hundred's even thousands on wheels but it's not me.
Iv'e e-mailed a guy near Newcastle about wheels too but they are cross spoker's and I don't know who good/bad they'd look on the 9000,they look ok on my BM but don't know about the Saab.
