Hello all.

I've just bought a 97 900 SE Turbo with £6000's worth of unknown mods. It pumps out 250bhp.

Can you tell me at a guess what it will have?

Can anyone tell me what to look out for before the engine blows up etc? Is 250bhp a high state of tune or not?

I do 15,000 a year. How often do I change the oil etc.

Does anyone know of a any cheap insurance companies for tuned saab's?

Sorry for all the questions, i'll get better as I go on with the car honest.

For insurance companies, start off with Adrian Flux or Greenlight. Try a search on the board, this has been talked about a few times before

Someone else will, I am sure, comment on the upgrade side of things for you.

Hi Mr Bungle

250hp is a significant increase on the stock of circa 185, but nothing unheard of.

It would be helpful if you could let us know a little more info about the car and then we will be able to advise you better.

However, it's pretty certain that to reach that sort of power, it will be running a modified ECU, the most likely contenders being Abbott, Hirsch, Maptun or Speedparts.

Other likely mods, if the figure is accurate are the exhaust, intake and possibly the head.

If you don't have too much joy with detective work yourself, then pop along to the next meet that you can get to and I' sure there'll be some willing "volunteers" to play "guess the mod"

Welcome to Saabscene.

You probably have:

-modified Trionic software
-crossflow intercooler, Viggen spec or a more expensive one from Abbott Racing, Hirsch Performance or Elksport
-3" downpipe
-2.5" or 3" sports exhaust
-open air filter or maybe a sports filter in modded airbox

Change oil according to the official Saab maintenance schedule.

Your engine won't blow up, it's the gearbox you should be worried about.

I can't talk.

My wife drives a silverTigra.

I've put 17" chrome rims, 40mm lowered suspension, S/S Magnex 6x4" Oval pipe, 12" ported sub and sony components in the front doors with brown bread.

I used to have Escort GTi as well.

I still have my Kawasaki ZX9R though. Now that IS fun.

I'm in Warrington. is that the Lowton near to Leigh?

Cruise cheshire have a Weekly meet near to Warrington at the Car boot car park, opposite the Big B&Q and the M62. But yes that is Max Powerish. But I do go along to show a decent car once in a while But Saab Scene meets are nothing like the Max Power ones.

The only cleavage you are likely to see is a Builder bum, as someone adjusts their FPR to keep the pressure while on a track day

ah ha
mr bungle.. you bought the afn 900 that was on e-bay ?
I did some background research into afn and they modify porches as well as others but porkers seem to be their bread and butter

I would concur with maarten on the modifications ..these would be the ones neede to make sensible and reliable horspower
however the hp quoted may not be there or if it is it may be just down to boost pressure

I would strongly recommend you have the boost checked with a calibrated gauge and if you can ,get the air to fuel ratio checked through the rev range

If the boost is less than 1.4 bar and the a/f ratio is in the green then you should have no probs as these things are ones that will wreck your engine

good luck...

You could always 'phone AFN and ask them what they did. If they mainly do Porches they'll probably remember the odd SAAB.

Also have a look at ERP's site for ideas.

Liverpool or Warrington area if possible.

Thanks.

My wife thinks i'm ****** nuts but i'm soooooooooooooooo bored with the Carina E 1.6GS.

Hopefully I can sell the Carina for £1500.
