I sorry if this a silly question but I am thinking about a maptun stage 5 on an Aero and as I have a Volvo t5 which has a Mitsubishi TD04-19T as part of a stage 2 upgrade, I was wondering what is the differences between turbo's such as a 15t/18t/19t. etc

The TD04-19T turbo is by far the best of the Mitsubishi standard offerings, according to the Mitsubishi flow maps I have got my hands on. If you have good condition Volvo spec turbo you would still need all the SAAB spec exhaust and compressor housings.

Currently Mitsubishi are not providing the parts to convert the SAAB TD04 to a TD04-19T, so I have just sourced an upgrade Turbo for my 2.3T 9000 from SAABflight. It is based on the TD04 but with "some" huge wheels in it....

It was fitted Wednesday and after a gentle run in I have opened it up for the first time today..... The boost is amazingly different from the standard turbo.

I am having the Car re-mapped this week and will report back on how it is going

That's very interesting. Who is doing your remap and is the turbo the same as the one on the maptun website under the stage 5 remap

I'm looking at Maptun Stage 5 also - they use the 18T wheel and a light clip to the turbine wheel plus some porting and polishing (check the spec in the Maptun components part of this site) . I think this gives about as much power as the 19T with a little less lag. I had enquired about Volvo turbos before but i think all the parts are different layouts so you hit issues with connections, hoses etc. I could be wrong though, and if you have one to hand, it's much easier to assess.

I think it's Saabflight that do the tuning? Didnt know they did any - and not sure how they are fixed to do Trionic 5 stuff 'well' but had a quick look at their site and they do performance stuff anyway.

SAABflight are doing the mapping.

Having looked at the physical mods to the turbo, it is much more than a simple wheel change and "clipping".... so we will see

I'd be interested to hear the results, Saabflight are on my doorstep. I see from their website that they do their own mapping

to develop our own software maps suitable for the Trionic 5 managment systems fitted to Saabs from 1993 - 2000.

[/ QUOTE ] I thought this was quite specialised work, has anyone else here had experience of their mapping??

I've been running a Saabflight map in my Aero for the last few months (they definately do the mapping themselves) - along with a JT exhaust and sports air filter. It is certainly fast but I haven't got it to the rollers yet.

Need to find enough money for the turbo upgrade next... tell me again why I didn't just leave it standard?

LOL

If you are running standard, chances are you have no interest in this forum !

If you do fit the SAABFLIGHT hardware/software, let us all know how it turns out.

I am going down the Abbott/MAPTUN route currently, and am always looking for cost effective alternatives.

Have been looking at a TD04HL18T #6, but would be curious if anyone running one of the Garrett units (Garrett GT30BB or Garrett GT30R) !!

cheers all

yep I have a gttb30

it really needs the tubular manifold and 3 " downpipe for spool up quickness
I did run it with the normal manifold and the JT downpipe and it worked ok
I ran up to 370 with the normal manifold
with the tubular manifold/downpipe and a remap by fredrik took it to 475

it does spool up slower and it only gets going at about 2,600 rpm
the TDO4 gets going about 400 rpm earlier iirc

I have put on about 60 k in miles so it seems to be reliable
