Hi Guys,

On saturday injectors 2 and 3 were changed for new ones and the others cleaned in a local garage. All was fine but then I drove about 30 miles and the EML came on but the car was still driving fine. Then this morning the EML was still on but it drove fine, until once I was on the motorway and while doing 120km/h the car gave a sharp jerk and all poor disappeared very very fast, the steering got very heavy and then all the light on the dash went out and the car was dead. I took the key out and gave it about 5 mins and started it again, it started fine and drove about 10 ft and the same happened again. So I had to get it towed back to the house and at mo the car won't start at all. When I turn the key the warning icons on the dash flash on and off and the speedo needle vibrates like mad. Its also has a new EGR and boost sensor fitted about 2 weeks back. i've owned it about 5 weeks now and never had a full weeks driving from it.
Anywho, I tried starting the car again today and the following happens

* The car doesn't start
* The warning lights flash on and off
* the eml comes and so does the glow plug light and stay on until the key is removed.
* the speedo needle vibrates rapidly 10 times.
*the headlights flash 3 times
* The LCD gives the following message
Stability control malfunction -contact service
Traction control Malfunction - contact service
Airbag malfunction - contact service
Right front indicator malfunction
right dipped headlight malfunction

I rang a Saab garage ( Saab center in Ireland) and the mechanic said the following :
"before bringing it into us you should try to jump start it"
he said the needle vibrating and the error messages happen when the battery is low on power and that's the only time it happens. he said the errors like traction control failure etc come up when theirs not enough power going to the cars computer to register them as OK during the car start up check and not necessarily an issue with the actual things that are popping up. so try to jump start it first. So I'll need to see if I can jump start it somehow. He said that if the injectors weren't coded the car wouldn't have driven away in the first place.

Is this right? I haven't tried jumping it yet as I live out in the sticks and only have a 1.2 cordoba to jump it off which the saab guy said won't work.
At this point even though I do love the car Ive had enough issues and just want to fix it and get rid.

Cheers,
Rob

A jump start will work, what I would do is connect it up and leave the leads on for 5 mins before you you try cranking especially if you only have thin leads. If it starts, run it for a while and see how it goes.

See if you can get a reading off the battery with a multimeter when offf and then running. If the voltage doesn't go up to between 13 and 14 volts when running then it's likely to be the alternator. Ideally you need to read the codes.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's really confusing me as the all power in the car just went while I was driving on the motorway. Would the alternator have done this? I'm going to get a charging pack tomorrow for it ( stuck in work all day today). I need to get it going to get it to the saab garage and get them to give it the once over.

Cars in the garage as off yesterday, still trying to find out what's up with her though. The mechanic who towed it from the house tried to jump start using two industrial battery chargers at the same time and still nothing. He left the charger on the battery for about 25-30 mins and the battery never took the charge, tried a new battery and it still didn't work. EML is on but no codes showing up

I have had 2 alternators go on my old 9-3 1.9TiD, and both times got the same symptoms you are showing.
It may also pay to disconnect the battery for a few hours (well, at least 20 mins) to reset the system. I had to do this when i had problems with my speedo needle, when it refused to go below 2,000rom with the engine off.
