Well it is to me anyway. Most people know that i have Volkswagen alloys on my car (see pic below) which are fitted to my car via PCD Corrective bolts aka wobbily bolts. Anyway the problem started tonight, went to fit new brake pads to the front of my TTID as my old ones were down to the metal. Pad fitted fine, then i went to put the wheel back on, the spokes are right up against the caliper!! the wheel basically wont turn as its resting on the caliper.

The pads, i actually have never seen ones like them before, they are extremely thick, look like they should be fitted to a lorry. Somehow they must make the caliper sit out further. I bought my car with the volkswagen wheels on it and they obviously fitted fine, and its not until now that i have needed to fit new front pads.

I need to get thinner pads from somewhere as i wont be able to fit my wheels back on without them. Seriously cracking up big time.

The pads i bought from the motor factors are MINTEX MDB2764

MDB2764

Fitting Position: Front Axle; Brake System: 16"+

Width 1 [mm]: 155.1; Width 2 [mm]: 156.4; Height 1 [mm]: 72.7; Height 2 [mm]: 77.5; Thickness [mm]: 20.9; Wear Warning Contact: prepared for wear indicator; Brake System: Teves; Article number of recommended accessories: MBA1639

I have noticed others on the MINTEX website listed for the TTID 180 which have a thickness of 18.5mm, slightly smaller in height and width though too.

MDB2749

Width 1 [mm]: 156.3; Width 2 [mm]: 155.1; Height [mm]: 72.9; Thickness [mm]: 18.5; Wear Warning Contact: excl. wear warning contact; Brake System: Teves

Will the 2749 be the answer to my problems and give me the caliper clearance due to the thinner pad?

Did you buy the pads you now have based on the size of the disks fitted - there is the right info on a plate/sticker fitted to your car - Aerojon or Jezz will know where abouts' as i just cannot remember. Looking at the specs for the two pads you list they look like they are for different diameter disks.

Yes, thinner pads are the way to go as you need to reduce the about of 'push back' on the calliper. Is there any oinfo vvisiable on the back of the pads that came out and also measure them and compare them to the types listed (obviously not the thickness).

Given the wheels are a different type to std. and the offset is different; It's a suck it and see job Aaron. you can measure all you want - but actually fitting them is the only way.

The thinner pads, if they're marked as being for 17" wheels, will be for the 345mm disks - you have the 314mm disks, so the pads aren't interchangeable.
as jezz says if the car came with 16" standard you will have 314mm discs unless they changed the system and theres only .02 difference in thickness  so hardly anything i would check size of discs and see if you can get any h/w measurments of old ones

my inlaw is good at bodging breaks maybe will send him round lmao he'd prob get the grinder out:crazy:..............but dont do that

Been having a look at some options there, you can fit a 3mm spacer with these bolts but absolutely no thicker than that or else it would not be safe. Do you think a 3mm would give me the clearance i need?

If you had bought genuine GM pads rather than Mintex, then I would have helped you out by swapping your new pads for my half-worn GM 314 pads (police spec), which would have fitted your calipers just fine and allowed you to bolt the wheels straight on....lol.

fitting a spacer would not be an option for me as one was not required before therefore fitting one is only preventing the problem rather than a cure..............the first thing i would check is the actual size of the discs or take a reading from the bottom of the vin plate at position 7 then post up and someone with epc will beable to tell you
