Maintaining Idle

1278 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Stephen Brown
Hi All,

My 9k CSE 2.0i does not want to maintain its idle at the moment. Its a problem that seems to have developed over the past few days. Basically when driving the car drives normally and fine however as soon as I dip the clutch or put it in neutral the engine dies and I have to restart.

Any ideas what this could be? The only thing I thought of was the Air flow meter however wouldnt this affect all the driving and not just idling?

Any help would be very greatfully recieved.

While this page specifically is aimed at a different engine type to yours, it may help you in the right direction! Sorry I can't help further - have you got the haynes book?
The IAC valve on the 2liters is on top of the inlet manifold, very easy to get at.

If the car is stalling on deceleration -- especially when stopping -- I'd suggest the dump valve (aka hooter valve, blow off valve, etc). If it has failed, the car will stall when you let off the gas and decelerate.

Rod.
I dont think this is an IAC valve problem because I have clened it recently and it didnt have any effect. I dont think its a dump valve either because I dont believe that the non turbo versions have one! Any more ideas?
Hi,
You said in your first post:

Unfortunately wrong. The AMM DOES start giving problems on just the idle speed, it's more prevalent when the air is damp, as it has been of late. Remove AMM from the system and spray libelally with carb. cleaner or contact cleaner. Let it dry and re-fit. It costs next to nothing to do and can cure your problem. It cured mine!
