Can anyone of the Saab techs here tell me whether removing/reinstall of the differential with the engine/trans in the car through puliing the driveshafts, removing the rear diff cover and differential bearings and getting the diff out through the diff cover hole is indeed considered a valid procedure? And if so, how much shop time should it take?

If the answer to the above is affirmative (meaning it is a viable and an economical course of action), methinks a strenghtened steel diff cover and a Phantom Grip LSD conversion kit might not be such a stupid investment for Saabine...

It should be possible!

This just what I'm planning to do. just waiting for more money

To remove the diff, "just" open the hatch and pull it out when the axis is gone.

I would guess a weekend in the garage would do...
