My Saab 9000 CS 2.3L turbo,96, seems quite a bit less powerfull then the 1994 CSE 2.3 L or the 1989 16 V Turbo. My mechanic said that is because it is a "low pressure turbo" on this car with automatic transmission (the other ones were manual). Is that really true? How do I know that the turbo is actually working?

Full turbos get the gauge to give the boost level, LPT's do not so you will have to plumb one in to check the boost level.

Also, autos limited to 200BHP (and certain torque limits) whereas manual generally is approx 225BHP, basically to save tearing auto box to pieces.
