Hi all, Seems we have managed to lose the driver's key for the Linear Estate. Now on the spare and a bit nervous. What's the best thing to get another key sorted? All suggestions welcome.

On a 9-5 you can reprogram the electronics of a secondhand one. But it would leave you with the wrong mechanical part if the remote fails. Maybe someone could cut that at a hardware shop and you could swap the blade over. Not done it, so it may not be easy.
In UK a new key supplied and programmed would be around £70 if you ring around. Not sure if you have that luxury in Oz.

If your car still has the original key barrels SAAB will (well, there have been a few exceptions!!) have the key code for the blade on file in Sweden so the dealer can just order with your vin no. I believe if they are changed they should update the keycode on file...
For the programming part you're going to need someone with a tech-2 and the SAAB cards in it! I'd suggest at this point, you buy 2 spare transponders and get 3 married up to the car. Put one of the transponders in your firesafe so if ever you lose both keys then you can still just order a new key blade and still get your car working!

When I bought my last 9-5 it only came with one key.....I considered all the options above and realised by the time I messed about on ebay etc, I would probably have lost the remaining key!!! Just swallowed the bitter pill and paid for a new key.
