Hi Guys

Thought i would start a thread with ALL the Saab Indies in the surrounding area!
If you can list the garage & address!
and then give a rating for the customer service you got!

Sabco
Telephone: 01505 863300
Address: Greenock Rd, Bishopton, PA7 5AN
Rating: 6/10

Used them twice for a service & was quoted £170 for a service! 2nd time i used them was quoted £140 for the same service! Just feel they change oil & filters & that's it! they never asked the cars mileage so think they just do the bare basic stuff in the service!

Schoneville Saab (1 Kilbirnie Place, Tradeston Industrial Estate, close to West St Underground, enter from the A77 side and not the Clyde/Tradeston side as West St is blocked for through traffic next to the underground station).

They attended to me, at short notice, on Saturday last to sort out my clattering rear brake pads. The owner also took me out on a test drive to diagnose some clutch noise which I asked for advice about and give me recommedations. I did like this personal touch to the service and you don't feel that you are paying to support a large dealer "temple" as per Western at the top of the street!!

I would highly recommend Bill Hay at Saltire motors in Bonnybridge. Runs a small one man operation but if you have a genuine emergency he always seems to be able to fit you in! Great on all things Saab except my pesky V6 which he doesn't fancy much. Stick to giving him the 4 pots to fix and he will do you proud. Been dealing with him for 10 years and not fallen out yet, even if he did tell my wife not to let me try and fix the brakes again!!

Fellow Caledonians,

After using Westcars in Glasgow or Western in Perth until ra motor ('97 9000 Aero auto) was into its 120,000+ adolescence, I've been using Derek at D&J Motors in Edinburgh. I live in southern reaches of Tayside (Kinross) but happy to slap into Edinburgh to get what I need.

94 Lower Granton Road, Tel: 0131 551 2940.

It's a wee garage unit right off the road, with Saab's parked all around.

Lovely guy, ex-Western Saab man and a real Saab-nut. Certainly tells me where I'm going wrong.

He's lately taken to working on his own (his helper Ruth recently departed) so it helps if you're not in a hurry.

He gives great value on the labour (i'm sure he gives more than he gets) but, as ever, the genuine Saab parts he insists on aren't cheap. He's determined to cleanse the vehicle of all the cheap and Kwik-Fit parts that have found their way on board over the years. The latest is the whole exhaust system; and, hey, what a difference it makes!

He's a pleasure to do business with.

Gouranga!

I wouldn't touch Schoenville Saab with a bargepole after my experience. I have clear evidence of dishonesty. This is not the place to go into detail, but let me just say that the police were involved. They got caught out being dishonest and very embarassing indeed it was for them. Don't trust them.

By the way, I'm a long-standing Saab enthusiast with no axe to grind, so just wanted to share that.

TheD,

There is a slight confusion over Saab servicing in Kippen in that there used to be ( circa 15 years ago ) a Saab franchise in Kippen. This has long gone but one of their ex mechanics carried on the excellent tradition and did private servicing and repairs for a while. This is no longer the case.

However, the remaining garage in Kippen, Glengyle Garage, is one of the good old fashioned ( in the best possible sense ) style of garages where they actually repair things rather than just plug in and swap bits 'till the computer says it's fixed. Jobs may take an extra day since they don't hold stocks of absolutely everything but the Motor Factor franchises in Central Scotland give a pretty rapid service so you're probably not going to be held up much more than a Dealer Franchised Garage. Nearest Saab dealer - the choice is Glasgow or Perth.

I've always found Duncan MacKinnon and his Guys, and Jill, more than accommodating.

Paul @ Kippen.

Anything you can tell...? I'm looking for a service but have heard mixed reports...

My fellow Caledonians ... I strongly agree with a previous post that Central Saab are the best in the central belt, and I have posted this view elsewhere on the site. I've used Western in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and Schoneville in Glasgow. But Central beat them all for value, service and customer care. At Central you are dealing with real enthusiasts (Martin the manager is a case in point) who are of course running a business but, unlike many others, seem to understand that if you treat people well and don't take them for a ride then they will come back. Hence now I have no hesitation in taking the car 60 miles up the motorway to Central when something important needs fixed. Plus you get to admire Martin's lovely 99 Turbo and his old two-stroke while you wait. Only downside is that they don't really do bodywork. I've never used Eastern-Western. If anybody has and has some bodyshop fedback, that would be handy. I have a 9-3 turbodiesel sport saloon, BTW.

I have found wide disparity between the quote and the reality when it comes to servicing. All depends on what they think is wrong and needs replacing, and then how much that will cost you on top of your 200 quid service, doesn't it? So I go for people I feel I can trust to leave things alone that don't need fixing and sort the things that do for a reasonable price, which is based in experience. If you have some time to spare and want to save money, and the car needs a major service, and you can kip at a friends house in Edinburgh/Lothian, and you want peace of mind ... I suggest that you consider taking it to Central Saab. I'm not kidding. It's only a three-hour drive! I would recommend phoning them. They might be able to sort you out with a car if they need to keep yours in for more than a day. Only problem is that they are very popular so you might need to wait. But you should phone them. Hope you get it sorted whatever you decide. AB

I must admit I’ve used Schoneville Saab twice, both times very good on price and excellent service.

I have also turned up with an appointment with my exhaust rattle Ken took the time to come out with me to listen to it put it up on the ramps to make a diagnosis, I had a cuppa in the waiting room and my car was returned 15mins later - no charge

I've always found them very good.

Ken was the service manager at Western Saab and I would recommend them, you take garages as you find them!

markc at #7 is spot on - I would also highly recomend using Derek at...

D&J Motors
94 Lower Granton Road
Edinburgh
0131-551-2940

I took my 9000 Aero for a full service in July 2010, which Derek completed in good time. He also sorted a few faults I had pointed out to him (ECU check engine light & very annoying cabin sensor buzzing noise) as well as a few things he spotted himself, stuck in a saab CD I had acquired from a 9000 that was broken for parts and gave me a comprehensive report of what is likely to need done prior to next MOT (not very much as it happens). All for less than £500 and just before going on his holidays!

There isn't much this boy doesn't know about 9000's or it would appear any other Saab model.

Few of my SAAB owning mates have recommended Ian Browns in Dunfermline for years.
Only used him once personally (for the wife's Polo) and did a good job.

My 9-3 will be going there next.

I was very poorly treated by them when I took my car in to have the heater fixed. They did that OK but in the process broke the xenon headlight leveling sensor. They then charged me for the repair.

I wrote to the owner to complain but they didn't even acknowledge my letter. I definitely wont be going back.
