The shifter sleeve (the one you lift to put in reverse) did changed somewhen around 93 if I recall correctly, so there are chances that your and the one from the other car are different. This means that you have to remove the leather boot from the other sleeve, your rubber boot from your sleeve, then put the leather boot in your old sleeve. There are no problems in doing it, I can assure you its very easy, because even I was able to do it by myself. To know if you have to do it, so you can't use the new sleeve, you have to remove the shifter knob (pull hard!), then see if there are differences or not.
There are no problems in fitting the lower part of the boot to the plastic trim around the shifter, rubber and leather boots are interchangeable, the only problem is the sleeve.
