Hello my automatic transmission seems a bit messed up.

I have a 1993 SAAB 9000 CSE

Basically I can not shift the clutch into a gear and have it lock in place. The clutch merely locks into place in the N and P position and just glides by all other options without locking in place.

I changed the transmission fluid as a start to solving the problem because the fluid was a bit brown but this does not seem to have improved my condition.

I was told the problem could be because of worn gear rings and was told to remove the gear box cover to examine the insides.

I am having trouble figuring out how to remove the cover and have so far only found two screws that are located on the sides of the clutch area. One screw was located at the place which is to the right of the lower part of my leg when I am sitting in the driver seat and the other was located on the left side of the lower leg where the passenger sits. (pic enclosed)

I removed those screws and the only thing that moved was the plastic compartment that is in front of the gear selector. This item is where the park brake fits into and where there is a flip up storage case.

If anyone can provide any suggestions on how to remove the cover or even offer an idea to what is wrong and how to fix it I would be forever indebted to this forum.

Click on the links below to get an overview pic of my car as well as photos of the clutch area I am referring to.

To remove the cover around the lever you would only have to temove one screw. Fitted betwwen the centre console and the gear lever. Beautifully hidden under a small plug. Undo this one fiddle a litle with the cover and move the lever. It then should come of.

Hello, I can not find this plug that holds the screw which would allow me to release the cover.

In what direction from the top of the clutch and how many inches/centimeters away is this plug??

The clutch is not twisted, actually just the text stamped below the clutch is not straight.

Hello I found that magic plug and was able to remove the cover.

I have more pics taken of the inside but I honestly do not know what I am looking at.

The only reason I was trying to fix it myself is because I do not trust mechanics and I know transmissions are an expensive item that a lot of people are ripped off for.

If there is a problem with the linkage how would I know?? Someone mentioned something about it possibly being an issue with the break relay as well.
