Detecting very slight rumbling through the steering wheel at low speed as if there is play in a ball joint. Jacked up front wheel.

Can anyone advise me how much movement I should expect when I turn the wheel by hand (Gearbox in gear)? Wheel is able to move about two thirds of inch (old money) rotation.

That sounds fine, I think. There seems to be quite a bit of backlash in the gears.

A rumbling could be a wheel bearing. Check for this by grabbing the wheel top and bottom and trying to rock it. If there is play, it's worth checking first that the driveshaft nut is tight (by "tight", I mean 207lbft!). A loose nut will allow play in the bearing.

Did the 12 to 6 and 9 to 3 test . seems pretty taut. also thought about checking the hubnut . this is when I realised my torque wrench doesnt go that high. Must steal a heavier one.
