My wagon has gone pear shaped and I need your help.
Local specialist says the throttle body is seized and will be £715 to replace. No way I'm paying that, but how can it be so much?
Only breaking 9000's I've found are '89 - mines '92. Are the engines compatible?
Please - don't let the beast die!!

Ebay's worth a try too - but obviously no comeback there.

THere are quite a few people on the South Coast who may be able to advise of a Saab specialist / breaker closer to Plymouth. Hopefully!

I'm guessing you have a 2.3 Turbo with TCS.....

Yep the are V expensive!

Try buying one of the car spares part magazines and ringing every Saab breaker there is...

I know that one of the engineers at Howe converted his 2.3T CD from TCS to cable throttle, apparenetly it wasn't as tricky as you might imagine. That's proabably teh route I'll take when mine fries. I'm currently keeping everything crossed so that it doesn't!

Thanks chaps, I will let you know if my search is a fruitful one, otherwise there will be a 9000 being broken for spares down these parts!

one other trick to try
My local spannerman also imports saabs (grey market ) but he was able to source a tcs unit (the other big thing that goes wrong)for me at half the uk dealer price...so parts can be got cheap direct ...worth a try for such an expensive part ?

Is throttle body the same as throttle housing ?

as I have been offered a saab 9000aero where the throttle housing has gone. THe car is running on cable, and has been for the last 1000 miles and is fine apparrently.

Does running on the cable, reduce performance, and does it make TCS redundant ?

the car is running on "limp mode "
which means a lot of the systems are shut down
ie the a/c the abs and tcs and the throttle is /can be very jerky the boost is also restricted
I have driven my car like this on a couple of occasions and it was almost undrivable imho

if it has been converted to cable then that might be a different story but I believe the abs will be u/s

Running on cable makes the car almost undrivable.

The car will barely idle, will stall and have no progression from 'stalling' to 'too much power'

You will also need leg muscles like linford christie.

The symptons decribed (running on cable) is exactly what mine is like - like pushing the accelerator against a wall. A guy in work swears there's nothing seized that can't be unseized! If he gets the chance to prove himself I will let you know.

Under the carpet on the passenger footwell is where the throttle linkage goes and it has a very stiff spring. I suggest you replace this with a softer spring and it will be 'un-seized' !!!
