So early today I wake up to take my saab 900 se turbo to get emissions done, when i pull onto the street in first gear, admittedly i pull it a little hard, but i hear some loud noises and now neutral and first are one and the same, and it won’t shift into any other gears, and it won’t shift out of first gear. Did i break my shift linkage or is my whole transmission f***ed? please help me i wanna keep the saab

helpful to note that when the wheels spin i can head metal clunking around… i believe i blew my trans is up

Admittedly, hearing metal clunking around doesn't sound good! But check your shift linkage first, and assuming it's good, then think about some transmission work. If you or some friends can get the tranny out of the car, it may not cost all that much to fix it, or you may be able to buy a junkyard tranny and just replace it. Good luck!

Same happened to me.adgust the linkage.turned out the gearbox was almost completely dry which made shifting almost impossible. topping off took away the mixing gravel noise.low fluid means forcing the shifter hard, knocking it out of alignment over time.id start the car in neutral and it felt stuck in 3rd.the car would try to move like it's In gear.fluid+adjusting linkage.i thought I needed a clutch or input shaft bearing.buy the GS short shifter and shifter bushings.worse case,buy a fm55507 from a 03 se vert.direct fit to the b204.you just need to use a viggen transmission mounting bracket (from goldwing saab).it uses your stock mounts,it's just shaped different,but bolts up fine.the fm55507 is way stronger internally than the fm55505.check www.car-part.com for the gearbox local.sooo shift linkage and fluid should fix this.if not,order a gearbox for a 03 se vert stamped fm55507, viggen transmission mounting bracket.viggen clutch,short shifter for your 900.i have a 99 9-3 with the b204 and 03 gearbox (507).a gearbox from a viggen or a 9-5 WILL NOT fit, good luck dude
thank you all, i was just over reacting and it was the shift linkage, along with a rear trans mount that was broken, had it all fixed up since I don’t have a shop and my apartment doesn’t let us do even basic maintenance on grounds, with the new(er) linkage the shifts feel much more solid, mechanical and smooth, but now i don’t want to have that happen again, do you fellas know of any people who sell upgraded shift assembly’s?
