hello all!i have a 89 900 turbo i just bought,starts hard(have to pump the pedal),idles irratic,seams a under powered,stalls sometimes at intersections and not so great on gas.any ideas? hate to drop all of this at first but people have told me this is were to ask.

'89 900 turbo 16v or 8v

well lets see first of dodgy fuel pump/relay..
have you cleaned your throttle body with carb cleaner also the AIC/AAV..

as for stalling "air leak" on the vacuum lines, its best just to replace all the vacuum lines with silicine ones

lastly if it is a 8v it will be worse on fuel than a 16v model

Funny thing that, i have very similar problems with mine, power is fine - the turbo is a little sudden though! but problems at idle, stalls when you use the clutch at junctions/traffic lights/any other reson you stop and uses a fair amount of petrol. i also have a strong smell of fuel around the car when i fill 'er right up! as for fuel consumption, she on her way to st ives this weekend so i am going to check it while i am down there (long motorway drive down then some back road fun!) - i know this is no help to you by the way, but at least your not the only one! (mine is a t16s)

Fixed the 9k with a new fuel pump, but could also be the fuel pressure regulator, as it sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel.

Apart from the other comments, check the oil filler cap is correctly seated. Sounds dumb, but it's the most common culprit and we've all been there...

That MY can also be susceptible to timing problems if the distributor is not set properly. At idle it should be 16 deg BTDC.

it is a 16 valve.
i will try what has been listed.(by all)
car is in good condition,but the gentlemen i recieved it from was to much of a tinkerer.
