I have a '96 9000 CSE and am having problems with the headlights. On dim I can hardly see to drive, though on full beam they seem to function well.

A car dealer where I live (in a small town in the far north of Maine, USA, with no SAAB dealerships within 3hours driving)has told me that I need a passenger side front head light assembly, but I just wondered if I can see if there is any other problem that I might have missed.

Also, I find when I drive up a little steep hill close to where I live, I get a slight 'knocking' noise from the engine. Is this anything to worry about?

I LOVE my SAAB, so really try hard to look after it.

Welcome to the site!

If the garage reckons you need a complete assembly, this presumably means the glass or plastic casing is cracked or damaged.

If the inside of the casing has just lost its reflective silvering, I understand that you can re-do it yourself using Chrome Trim Sheets (aluminised Mylar), supposedly available in model shops in the USA (I got this from the main US Saab site!).

Mind you, dip beam is none too bright at the best of times - do a site search under "headlamps", there's been a lot of discussion lately about bulbs.

I'm not sure about the other question though. Any Trionic specialists about?

i had this when i got my cs, i turned out to be the spring clip holding the bulbs in, the bulbs were quite loose as the clips were easy bent into the wrong shape, so giving a poor earth ,bent back into shape and headlights were much better.
