How does one disconnect the locking connector that attaches the headlight assembly to the wiring harness?

I am having one heck of a time trying to separate

Hi,

I don't quite know the bit you mean. I thought the wires could be pulled right off the back of the bulbs? First you must remove the big plastic covers from the backs though, to reveal the lamps.

I think all the wires should come off in this way.

No..I am changing the whole light assembly becasue the light was broken by a rock.

There is a connector to the assembly that apparently is locked to preclude it from coming apart unplanned.

However I cant figure out how to take apart. What i mean is there is a red tab that apparently (i think)pulls out to facilitate the separation of the connector.

I think I am close ...but no cigar.

Ah, the red tab.

The tab slides out at the same time as the plug comes apart. Try pulling the plug apart and encourage the red tab at the same time with a chunky screwdriver. Once it starts it all becomes clear..

The connector can be a pig if the contacts are corroded. Try a squirt of WD40. IIRC the red tab locks the assembly so try to get that moving first.

Thanks all I got the connector apart! It easy when you know what you are doing...
