Hi,

My 9000 CSE 2.3T will do 90MPH at 3000rpm
(in 5th)

New Griffin 2.3T does 80MPH at 3000rpm.
(in drive)

Only a very trivial question, but I would have thought the "sporty" CSE would have lower gearing and the Griffin geared higher -it being more like a tourer. It appears to be the other way round - doesnt make sense to me.

Maybe there is an overdrive type button I should be pressing ??

You have to consider that the griffin is a 4 speed auto where as the CSE is a 5 speed manual...

What speed does your CSE do in 4th at 3000? 65-70mph?

the auto only having 4 gears, needs to space them at appropriate points to allow acceleration, touring and sensible fuel consunmption.

All the Saab auto's I've driven (c900 lpt, 9000 CDE2.3i, NG900SET and 9-3SET have had lower gearing in top, and 1 or 2 fewer gears.

Also, any auto will have higher loses due to the way they work (torque converters) unless there is some clever 'widgets' for the upper gears.

Thanks for technical spiel on it.

I see what you mean in the fact that the Auto has only 4 gears.

I know how fast my CSE goes at 4800 RPM in 5th gear as well
