Hi

I have a 2003 9-3SS which has always had an annoying, intermittent rattle coming from the glovebox, or thereabouts.

I always assumed it was coming from all the junk I kept in there, but I eventually emptied it completely, but the noise persists.

I have a feeling it's the rubber mat on the bottom slapping against the plastic of the floor of the glovebox (it's not secured at the far end).

Has anyone else experienced this, and solved it?

The best thing to do is go and buy some silicon lubricant/spray and give all the hinges joints or anyhting else in that area a good spray. Let it soak in overnight and then wipe off the excess. I've used it alot and it's always worked so far. You can get it in any car parts shop.

It cured my rear seatbelt rattel 6 months ago and its never come back.

Thanks, I'll pick some up at the weekend.

Does it work on knees too?

Aye, what saabel said - I had this - sounded like a ruler on a desk going TWANNNNG - I jammed a piece of paper in between the side of the box and the offending trim.[/b]
I've done some investigating - the panel on the door side of the glove compartment comes off to reveal some fuses, and there's a fuse-puller(?) in the panel itself. Is it this panel you guys are talking about?

Anyway I've doused it with silicone spray, we'll see if that does the trick.

Regards

'tis strange how we have rattles and squeaks in the same area but not always from the same item in the area ! My 'twang' ...(well described S44BT4ST1C)..was from the glove box door 'stays'...one either side...I stuck a piece of household draught excluder down each 'stay' to baffle it...worked for me. I have just payed out what would seem an a extortionate amount of money for a product called Carbaflo. I got tired of going round with silicone...now only time will tell how good it is...........

If you get offered a sample then snatch their bloody hands off.... how many litres...... as luck would have it I have a sense of humour...so for that much money you get possibly an egg cup full...but the aerosol is handy for squirting down the vents !! It seems to have cured every rattle and squeek that I have but although I only used it a couple of days ago I have lost all confidence in my Aero... don't get me wrong..its a great car... I've got the PPC and the Hirsch springs..fit the Parrot bluetooth..it really does have all the bells and whistles..full leather, satnav, heated seats,6cd,aux in and more....but after only 7 months it has done my head in with its rattles and its squeaks....I don't think I'll be having another Saab !! I bought this car with hard earned cash..I don't have the luxury of Mr LTD paying for it....I thought I was being different going for the Saab... all my mates have the Beemers and Audi's....now I know why ! So off to Audi on Friday for a test drive in the A3 Sportback 2.0 200BHP.... seems a lot better put together than what I have sat in my garage right now!
