I have a 12 month old 93SS and it seems that the paint/coating on the button that opens the glove box is peeling off.

This button has probably only been pressed 20 or so times. Another SaaB interior trim quality problem ?

Has anyone else seen this ?

Maybe I should have stuck with the Germans ?

Yes i have seen this and so have the dealers, my coating came off a climate control button and a tiny piece was bubbling on the glovebox button.

The rubberised coating is very thin and the slightest nick with anything and it starts to peel.

All replaced under warranty,i blamed the wife and her nails for causing the damage as it was fine when i used it

Well, just been cleaning inside my car and noticed the coating on this glovebox button is also starting to lift. Again, I,ve hardly ever used it. Had a quick look but not sure how easy to renew as I can't see any fixing screws, surely it's not part of the airbag assembly.........or is it? Will this be covered by warranty as car was 2ys old yesterday?

This rubberised paint is a problem on so many cars of all makes, it just does not stick to the base plastic as it should and peels off sooner or later. I do SMART repairs for a living and these rubberised trim repairs come up most weeks.
It can be disguised by very careful sanding, masking and spraying with matt black paint but it can be quite fidly and if anything more than thin dust coats are used any remaining coating will react and crinkle (very unsightly).
The cost of the repair would be around £40-70 depending which repairer you use and where you live. Look for "Interior trim repairs" or SMART repairs to find someone locally.
